The following is a translation in English of part of the Swedish text providing a history of the 'Göteborgs Stads Erkända Centralsjukkassa' or in English, 'Gothenburg City Recognized Central Fund'. The City of Göteborg Recognized Central Fund was formed in 1904 with the aim to facilitate those who need longer sjukhjälpstid [sick benefit time]. After 90 days of sick pay in the 'local checkout' (e.g., Westa), it was possible to obtain an additional 90 days in continuation checkout Central. Originally 14 local unions were affiliated, but by the end of 1905 the number had risen to 32, with a total of 2759 members.The business grew gradually, and in 1920 formed vilohemsfonden [rest home fund] to facilitate the prescribed stay at rest homes. From 1924 there was a special relief fund that gave special financial assistance to those who were chronically ill, elderly or who otherwise could not get enough support by health insurance. Although the connection grew with the years 1933 and had continued checkout Central 50 affiliated local unions with a total of 39,609 members.1931 was a law on monopolies health funds which gave the continuation checkout Central reorganized in 1933 and became a monopolistic health insurance under the new name City of Gothenburg recognized central fund. The organization was such that local funds were connected to a central fund which was in charge of paying for long-term sick throughout the Gothenburg region. In 1954 health insurance became mandatory and tax-financed. The voluntary health insurance funds ceased. This year was to be the last for the City of Gothenburg Recognized Central Fund.
