By Birgitta Nordblom and Lennart Holmquist Måns Persson took the name Magnus Petri as å was the custom among people of a certain class or station in society or education.
Dannemore Mines 1. Magnus Petri (Måns Persson) (1550 - 1606). Magnus was born in Dannemora, Sweden [map]. His father's name was Per. Magnus married a woman whose first name was Malin (1565 - ????). She died in Gökom, Uppl., Sweden (The record from Birgitta Nordblom also gives 'Vigsel. Giökom 1597'. Uncertain weather the date is the date of death and if place of death is Giökom or Gökom or whether this is the same place. Also, Birgitta's record states 'Skrivelse 1610 Giökom, Dannemora, Uppl., Sweden' A Skrivelse is literally a letter, but unknown what it means in this context.) Magnus Petri was vicar in the Luthern church from 1590-1606, and took part in the Uppsala Synod of 1593, which was the most important synod of the history of the Lutheran church in Sweden. Sweden had broken with the Roman Catholic church in the 1520s as a result of the Protestant Reformation. However, an official confession of faith had not been declared. Four bishops and over 300 priests and heir to the Swedish throne, Duke Charles, met in Uppsala, Sweden and by March they had declared the bible (and not the Roman Catholic church) as the sole guideline for religion. In 1600 Magnus bought the homestead Gökom from Johan Sasse. Magnus Petri died in Gökom and was buried at the altar in Dannemora Kyrka. AG Holmqvist's notes about the vicar, Magnus Pethrus

Footnotes Usually the numbers in front of a name means the position of that person in his or her family. For instance if a person's number is'1.4' it means that the person is the forth child of the family. In this case, we have the name of only one person in a family from each generation. Therefore, each have the number '1'. web page updated: 27-Mar-2016
