Minnie Holm
1. Johannes Persson (August 8, 1823 - December 10, 1884) was born in Tjällmo, Östergötland, Sweden. He married Brita Maja Jansdotter (March 12, 1831 - 1896) who was born in Brunneby Parish, Östergötland, Sweden. They married in 1855. Brita had an illegitimate son before she married in 1855. The sons' name was Anders. Brita and Johan had several children including Joel, August, Karl, Thure and possibly Juliana Fred and Frank. However, these last three, provided by Esther Holm, may be the American names of three of the children. Except for Anders, the last names of Johan's children were Johansson (son of Johan) or Johansdotter (daughter of Johan). Some of the children eventually took different last names of Holm and Nordell. 1.1 Anders Fredrik Anderson (July 6, 1853- ????), born in Hällestad, Östergötland, Sweden was the illegitimate son of Brita Maja Jansdotter. He emigrated to American on May 23, 1890 A picture of August and Fred was taken in Oskaloosa, Mahaska, Iowa in 1892 the year August Holm and Carl Oscar Holm were both married in Oskalossa. 1.2. Augusta Johansdotter (December 5, 1856 - ????) was born in Tjällmo, Östergötland, Sweden and remained in Sweden. She did not emigrate. She is known as 'Johansdotter' which is the 'daughter of Johan, which was the custom in Sweden. No doubt her father's first name, therefore, was Johan. 1.3. Joel Nordell (May 23, 1859 - February 10, 1936) was born in Tjällmo, Sweden and died in Rinsinge, Östergötland, Sweden. 1.4. August Holm (28 March 1865 - July 18, 1899?) emigrated to America in March 1887 and married Johanna Wilhelmina Kumlander [Minnie, Mina ] (October 1, 1865 - February 1, 1940). Minnie was born in Rinsinge Tjällmo, Östergötland, Sweden. August and Minnie married on January 2 , 1892 Oskaloosa, Mahaska, Iowa, USA. August died in Chicago, Clark, Illinois at the age of 34 leaving three children and the fourth, August, born one month after his father's death. Minnie possibly never remarried, and if so may have raised, all four of her children herself. Johanna Wilhelmina went by the name of 'Minnie' and 'Mina' in America. According to Esther Holm her mother's name was Marie. Having lived in Ljungs, Sweden, she left Sweden or or arrived in America on October 1, 1865. She joined the Swedish Baptist Church of Englewood, also know as the Emerald Avenue Baptist Church on December 6, 1896 and remained a member the rest of her life even after she and the family moved to Indiana. Her brothers were Alfred and Carl who remained in Sweden, Frank Kumlander of Chicago. Her sisters were Lena and Anna who remained in Sweden. Minnie died in Gary, Indiana and is buried at the Bethany Lutheran Cemetery (or Swedish Lutheran Cemetery) in Lemont, Indiana. Esther says of her family: "These are the names of my father's family: His mother, Marie; sister, Juliana; brothers, Fred, Oscar, Joel and Frank. My father's name was August. Two died while young. Two never married. Two took the name of Nordell, two took the name of Holm. When the brothers joined the army in Sweden there were so many Johansons they were asked to choose another name. That's how the brothers happened to have different names." Based on what Esther says, it seem that the family name in Sweden was originally Johanson (alternate spelling would possibly be Johansson). When the boys joined the Swedish military they were required to take different last names which was not uncommon. Two of the boys took the name 'Holm' and two took the name 'Nordel'. Therefore, any descendents of the same family would be named Holm and some Nordel or Johansson. Considering their original last name was Johanson or Johansson, it is most probably that their father's first name was Johan. 1.4.1. Esther
Holm (February 1, 1897 - ) married Wilhelm (William, Bill)
Holmquist (July 22, 1887 - 1975) who had previously been married to

and Lillian had one daughter and Bill and Esther had three children. June, Marian, and William were the children of Bill and Esther.
