3. Jonas Holmquist (March 5,1849 - April 18, 1903) was blind since the age of nine and never married. He died in Nybyggden, Sweden.1 Jonas' father, Trufvid, died in 1884 when Jonas was 39 years old. In Trufvid's will Trufvid left his son Jonas some property. The records state that Jonas was "of age, but in view of the fact that he is blind and unable to take care of himself it is proposed that farm owners Johan Sunesson (his younger sister Kristina's husband) from Nybyggden and Johan Holmquist and Family (Jonas' half-brother) from Garanshult be appointed his guardians which offer was gratefully accepted. According to the will dated 28 December 1883 1/8 of a waterfall, mill and other property should go to Jonas. But this was contested by Jonas' brothers and sisters. Therefore Jonas' share was reduced to 1/16th. Jonas probably lived the rest of his life with his sister Kristina and her husband since records state that Johan died in Nybyggden in 1899. This is where she and her husband had their farm. Jonas' brother, Johan, later moved to America. Jonas died around the age of 50 years. For more information on Jonas's mother Elin and his second father, Trufvid see the Introduction to the Holmquist Family: Trufvid and Elin.
