Gustav was the son of Elin and Jön Svenson. When Gustav's father died his mother remarried, and Gustav became the stepson of Trufvid Holmquist 2. Gustav Johnsson Holmquist (July 22, 1843 - January 5, 1888) was the son of Elin and Jön Svensson. Jön died and Elin married Trufvid in 1848 when Gustav was less than a year old. Upon his father's death Johan, Gustav and their mother inherited Lindhult Gästgivargård (Lindhult Inn) from their father. Later Elin gave her portion of the inn to her husband Trufvid where he later lived, and which he managed. For more information on Gustav's mother, Elin, and his second father, Trufvid, see: Gustav's first wife was Ingrid Christina Bengtsdotter (January 11, 1852 - August 26, 1870) whom he married on November 27, 1869. They had one child Emilia Sophia Johnsson Holmquist who died when she was less than a year old. Gustav's second wife was Cecilia Bjelkengren (September 13, 1841 - January 1919)1 who was from the Vinslöv area. Cecilia had an illegitimate son, named Carl Peter who at ten years old emigrated to America. Gustav and Cecilia had six children together, Johan Enok who died when he was less then two years old, Annette, Alma, August Edward, Edvard and Alma. The two Almas and August Edward also died very young. Gustav and Cecilia sold milk and bread in Killeberg, Loshults parish. Gustav died at the young age of 44 from tuberculosis. Johan's brothers and sisters were Johan, Jonas, Kristina, Menny, Johannes, August and Anna . For information on each of their descendants, except for Jonas who had no descendants, click on their names. 2.1 Carl Peter Johnsson Holmquist (November 13, 1868 - ????). Carl, an' illegitimate' son of Cecilia, went down to the church office on April 15, 1878 and got either his emigration papers or Swedish passport and a certificate for change of address to go to America. He was only 10 years old at the time. We do not know who he traveled with, though we do know that his aunt Menny2 also went to the USA later in the year of 1878. Perhaps they went together. Bengt Holmquist has been attempting to trace Carl Peter. During his search Bengt contacted Nils William Olsson (the author of Swedish passenger arrivals in the United States 1820-1850) whose ancestors come from Killeberg. Bengt wrote to him and asked if he knew something about Carl Peter. Nils answered that when he and his father visited Sweden in 1920 Annette (Holmquist) Olsson (Carl Peter's half-sister) one evening saw them and asked if they could get in touch with her brother in Texas! Bengt also found an old photo of a young man which had been taken in Texas. This photo had once belonged to Annette who had them from the Bjelkengren family. On the photograph was printed Harper & Co 505 1/2 Main St Houston Texas. The age of the young man on the photograph was between 25 to 30 years old. If the photograph is of Carl Peter then the photograph would have been taken about 1900. 2.2. Emilia Sophia Johnsson Holmquist (March 4, 1870 - July 13, 1870). 2.3. Johan Enok Holmquist (October 28, 1873 - December 17, 1874). 2.4. Annette Holmquist (May 30, 1875 - December 14, 1960) married Hans Alfred Olsson (June 2, 1877 - November 20, 1903 and buried November 26, 1903) on November 10, 1899. Hans was a mailman who drove a travelling post office van. They both moved to Hälsingborg,3 but Hans died after four years from "nerve fever." After a while Annette moved back to Killeberg where she lived until her death. Anna and Carl Holmquist took care of Annette the last four years of her life. Annette and Hans had no children. 2.5. Alma Holmquist (June 26, 1877 - January 1, 1878). 2.6. August Edvard Holmquist (March 18, 1879 - November 20, 1880). 2.7. Edvard Holmquist (December 24, 1880 - May 14, 1962) married Ida Maria Holmgren (July 29, 1878 - April 24, 1921) on February 28, 1903. If this date was correct then Maria may already have been three months pregnant with their first child, Hans. Ida's parents were Johannes Holmgren ( ???? - July 21, 1904) and Tilda ( ???? - February 8, 1913). Her brothers and sister were Nils, Karl, and Anna. (Anna married Erst Sandberg who was a gardener from Holmstad. They had four children, Brita, Inga, Gösta and Johan). Edvard and Ida had three children: Hans, Karl and Elsa. Edvard's second wife was Esther Teresia Hansson (July 2, 1886 - November 2, 1965). They married on June 28, 1923. Edvard took a job as a railway guard in Hälsingborg. A while after moving to the city he built a home in Hälsingborg by Sofiero. He eventually retired in Hälsingborg. Esther died in a car accident. Edvard and Esther had no children. 2.7.1. Hans Titus Holmquist (August 28, 1903 - May 31, 1960 ) married Märta Aurora Johansson (December 4, 1905 - ????) on February 6, 1932. He was a real "go-getter" having three stores selling children's clothes. Hans died at age 56 in a goiter (thyroid) operation.4 Hans and Märta had four children, Ingrid, Ingemar, Jan-Olov and Marianne. For the descendants of Hans and Märta see Gustav and Cecilia Holmquist. Karl started a store (possibly a store that sold coffins) with his aunt Annette in Killeberg near Älmhult. In the spring, on May 8, 1938 Karl took over the store and added a house to it. Karl and Anna lived many years in that house. They sold the store in 1950. At one time Karl also worked in a factory.6 In 1982 Anna started living in an apartment, and sometime before 1997 moved into a retirement community in Loshult, a retirement community where she had originally been employed. Anna is originally from Loshult parish, born the first of eight children three of who (including herself) are still living.7A video tape exists of Anna talking about her childhood. Both Elsa and Jenny have a copy. Karl and Anna had five children, Bengt who died before his fisrst birthday, another child named Bengt, Anna, Elsa and Frida. For the descendants of Karl and Anna see Gustav and Cecilia Holmquist. If you need a user name and pasword click on Password. 2.7.3. Elsa Maria Holmquist (September 17, 1907 - September 15, 1988). Elsa lived in Malmö the last 25-30 years of her life and worked at a restaurant in Malmö.11 The last years of her life she lived in a convalescent home in Malmö. Elsa wrote Bernard Holmquist about the year 1961 while he and his family were living on Taiwan. Elsa had attended a Swedish Baptist conference in Sweden where she learned that the daughter of some missionaries named Doris Rinell had married a Bernard Holmquist. She got the address and wrote finding out they were indeed related. Elsa and Bernard corresponded a bit and sent Christmas cards every year. 2.8. Alma Holmquist (May 13, 1883 - December 2, 1883). Alma was a little over six months old when she died. For a graphic representation of the Gustav, Ingrid, and Cecilia Holmquist's family tree see Holmquist Family Tree Gustav Holmquist Branch 1688 - 1993. A few things about this linked file: 1) You will need a user name and password. To get both see Password. When you open the family tree you will need to print it, and then tape the pages together since the family tree does not fit on one sheet of paper. 3) 'Holmqvist' is a mispelling. The family name has alwasy been spelt 'Holmquist' For a primary document upon which some of the above is based see:
Footnotes 10. Jenny met Lennart and Jill Holmquist; Meilynn, Steve, Josh and Jeremie at the airport and later met Gene, Philis, Eric and Megan Holm.
