Rex Shinholt I was born Aug 10, 1930, northwest ofVan Buren. I lived most of my life aroundVanBuren [Indiana],exceptfor 1 year northeast of Warren.I was married in 1950 for over 25 years. Mywifepassedaway in 1976. I accepted the Lord on I 69 coming home fromthehospitalafter seeing my first wife in Ft Wayne. I went to church for a while at Union Chapel, butquit.Ireally felt lost, so I decided to see AdeleRyggstotalkabout coming back to church. I tried to callhertonoavail. After going to Ft. Wayne to get newglasses, whilewaiting I ate too many peanuts. That night Iwenttothehospital with bad cramps, Adele was achaplinassistant atthe hospital. So she came to see me. Wedecided togoshopping over Thanksgiving weekend.March 22, 1981, we were married, (The Lord sureworksinmysterious ways.) Shortly after going back to church I wasasked to beaGreeter. Later after an add-on to the churchIwasasked togreet at the new door. I was very shy soAdeledecidedwewould greet as husband and wife. Shortly after coming to Liberty Baptist [church], KenHussongaskedus to greet. We thought it was onlytemporary. Nooneevertold us to quit so we just kept on greeting.I feel that greeting has helped me to be abletomeetpeople easier and at the same time dosomethingintheLord's service. We used to have everyone come in our door soifsomeonedidn't show up on Sunday we would send them acardtoletthem know we missed them. Folks seemed toappreciatethis. Now that the congregation is so large and asmallnumbercome in our door that it's hard to tell who'snotthere onSunday. Also, there are families we haven'tmetbecause ourpaths never cross, so it's hard to separatetheregularsfrom the newcomers. We joined church shortly after becominggreeterssowewouldn't feel like outsiders greeting folks. I feel that every person at Liberty is partof myfamily,so when one moves, or leaves for otherreasons, Ifeelwehave lost part of our family.I feel that you get God's word at Liberty andinthewordsof BR Laken "If you didn't get it, youdidn'tbringanything. to get it in.
NOTES The testimony was written circa 2003.
